Methane Emission Monitoring: Past, Present and Proposed Future

The focus of my discussion will be on measurement, monitoring, and reporting of methane emission for the upstream oil and gas sector. The most recent Upstream Petroleum Industry Emissions report will be reviewed including overall emission reduction trajectory towards meeting the 2025 methane reduction target. The discussion will also focus on reporting discrepancies between reported venting volumes to the Petrinex system vs. the reported venting volumes in the OneStop system. Lastly, information on proposed changes to measurement, monitoring and reporting frameworks will be discussed including red-tape reduction initiatives.
